Pre-Departure Orientation Session for two Humphrey Fellows and a Fulbright Scholar

U.S. and Lao former alums meet with the future scholars before their departure for the States.
The Embassy Public Diplomacy Section held a pre-departure orientation session on Friday, May 18 for two Fulbright Humphrey Fellows and one Fulbright scholar who will depart soon for their pre-academic training in the United States.

The orientation session began with welcoming remarks by Public Diplomacy Officer Amy E. Archibald, and continued with a briefing to help the three students prepare for their upcoming studies and life in the United States. Then the group met over lunch with American and Lao alumni to discuss their experiences in the U.S. and share their expertise.  All three Fulbrighters will leave Laos in the next few weeks to begin their studies in the United States.

The Fulbright Program was established by the U.S. Congress in 1946 to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills. For successful Lao applicants, the Program funds two-year Master’s Degree study in the United States. The Humphrey Fellowship provides mid-career professionals from developing countries an opportunity to enhance their professional capabilities through participation in specialized, 10-month, non-degree programs at selected American universities.
