Over 100 Lao students celebrated American Society and Culture Month (and beat the July heat!) at the American Center’s first ice cream social on July 11.
U.S. Embassy Economic Officer Joshua Archibald opened the event with a quick and informal discussion on career paths for Lao students before assuming ice cream service duties. Public Affairs Officer Amy Archibald gave a quick history and description of the ice cream social, pointing out that the U.S. and Laos share a common problem in July: the heat! In the United States people invite some friends over for a cool treat and a little bit of fun by hosting ice cream socials, or parties where the guests build their own sundaes and take a few moments to chat with their neighbors. She showed students how to create their own ice cream sundaes, American style.
