The Embassy worked with the National Avian and Human Influenza Coordinating Office (NAHICO) and the United States Pacific Command (PACOM) to hold a training session on the role of the military in a possible major Avian Influenza (AI) outbreak. NAHICO hosted this AI Table Top Exercise August 2-3 at the International Cooperation and Training Center for more than 120 attendees including officials from the Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Forestry, and Foreign Affairs; more than 70 military officers; as well as observers from the international community. Six Marine Corps and Air Force participants from PACOM also attended and briefed the attendees on PACOM AI planning. PACOM helped finance this important program.
