Lao students learn about applying to U.S. universities

 

Ms. Sonja Phongsavanh discusses the U.S. university admissions process with Lao students.

In October 11, 2007 the U.S. Embassy’s Information Resource Center welcomed Ms. Sonja M. Phongsavanh, Associate Director Graduate Enrollment Services, Rochester Institute of Technology, for a presentation on “Studying in the U.S.” at the Lao American Center. Ms. Phongsavanh discussed the advantages of a U.S. university degree and the American education system. She introduced students to the admissions process for U.S. universities, including application timelines, selecting universities, submitting the application, financing studies, and calculating expenses. Finally, she showed students how to locate sources of funding and calculate the costs for a study abroad program.
