U.S. Embassy hosts workshops on Internet research skills
 |
Participants learn to put their Internet skills to use to find credible -and free! – sources of information on the web. |
On October 10, the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Section hosted a workshop on “Internet Searching Skills” at the Embassy for Lao officials. Linda Parker, the Regional Information Resource Officer based at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, introduced the basics skills needed to use search engines and showed participants how to find free online databases. She also coached the group on the proper use of copyrighted material.
Participants in the morning session learned to use the Internet to search for information on legal and judicial affairs, while the afternoon session focused on curriculum development. Almost 40 Lao officials joined the workshop, including representatives from the National Assembly; National Legal Research Institute; National Organization for the Study of Politics and Administration (NOSPA); Science, Technology and Environment Agency (STEA); and the Ministry of Education. Both groups also learned about the materials and services available at the Information Resource Center at the U.S. Embassy and the American Centers.
