More than two thousand people from around the country visited the U.S. Embassy booth during the That Luang cultural festival, November 17 – 25. This is the biggest festival in Laos, celebrating the unity of the country and its Buddhist heritage.

The U.S. Embassy participates in the cultural festival every year to highlight U.S.-Lao relations and bilateral cooperation. This year, the Embassy booth focused on health, including avian influenza prevention, the importance of vaccinations and hygiene, and HIV/AIDS protection. We used videos, posters, displays of personal protective equipment (PPEs) that we have donated to the Lao government, journals translated into Lao, and reusable thermometers handed out to the public with the U.S. Embassy logo and website to highlight our theme.

As always, the booth included displays on U.S. Government-sponsored scholarships, materials on studying in the United States, and information on the American Center and Embassy website. We also distributed books and pamphlets with information about the United States economy and government and sold English study materials at greatly reduced prices.
