Lao students learn about the U.S. election system

Public Affairs Officer Amy Archibald discusses the U.S. elections with Lao students

U.S. election discussions kicked off at the Lao-American Center on Wednesday, February 20. Fifteen students attended a lecture by Public Affairs Officer Amy Archibald on the American electoral system and the current candidates. The conversation included an overview of the presidential candidates, both Democrat and Republican; and their efforts to win the votes in each state; different primary procedures; and what happens when the primaries are (finally!) over. Handouts helped explain the issues, with statements on each presidential candidate’s policy on climate change, Iraq, trade, immigration, and security. The next election event at the American Center will be held in September, when the parties' candidates have been selected.
