U.S. Embassy Augments Customs Equipment at the Friendship Bridge in Savannakhet

Mr. Khamla Xayavong, Bridge Director, receives new equipment from the U.S. Embassy
During a meeting to discuss methods to combat illicit trafficking at the Friendship Bridge at Savannakhet, Mr. Khamla Xayavong, Bridge Director, received new equipment from the U.S. Embassy. The bridge represents both enormous opportunities and difficult challenges as goods and people move more freely between Thailand and Laos. The U.S. Embassy is committed to continuing its cooperation with the Government of Laos to deter traffickers and expand opportunities for enhancing Laos’ ability to secure its borders against illicit activity. The equipment donated by the Embassy included five pairs of binoculars, five maglights, and five protective vests. This equipment will help customs officers as they inspect the growing number of vehicles crossing the bridge from Mukdahan, Thailand, and make their work safer as well. |Jan 31, 2007|
