WARDEN MESSAGE

This message is to alert U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Laos of the continuing threat of flooding in low-lying areas adjacent to the Mekong River in several areas of Laos, including Luang Nam Tha, Bo Keo, Luang Prabang, Bolikhamxai, and Vientiane Provinces. There was flooding in several parts of the city of Vientiane, including the Thadeua Roadarea and neighborhoods near Wattay International Airport. Route 13 South was closed from Tha Bok, where the Nam Nguem River meets the Mekong River. Travel by land on Route 13 South from Vientiane to provinces in Southern Laos, including bus travel, may not be possible. News reports and local authorities reported temporary road closures due to landslides on Route 13 North between Vientiane and Luang Prabang. Some roads in Vientiane City adjacent to the Mekong River are closed. Water and electrical services may be temporarily cut off in flooded areas. Travelers should check with local authorities or travel agents about road conditions before making travel arrangements to affected areas.

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy Vientiane, Laos is located at Rue Bartholonie, That Dam, Vientiane, Lao PDR (near That Dam Stupa), and the telephone number is +856-21-267-000. Recorded Emergency Information can be obtained by calling at +856-21-267-111. American Citizen Services Unit Window Hours are Monday through Thursday, 1:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m.  Fridays are 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
