2007 JPAC Activities

During their visit to Lao PDR, the DASD delegation met with Lao government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry on National Defense [pictured here] to discuss issues related to POW/MIA operations.

During a field site visit in southern Laos, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Ambassador Charles Ray with Mrs. Melinda Cooke and Mr. John Kull discuss an open excavation site with a JPAC anthropologist.

Recently appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD), Ambassador Charles Ray, visited Laos on an orientation visit with Mrs. Melinda Cooke, OSD-DPMO Director of Policy, and Mr. John "Jack" Kull Jr., OSD-DPMO Policy Officer. They made two visits to Laos from 18-22 January, 2007, one to JPAC excavation sites in the southern part of Laos and one to the capital city of Vientiane. During their visit to the Southern part of Laos, they visited three sites currently being excavated by members of JPAC in search of POW/MIA personnel from the Vietnam war; the sites were in Salavan and Xekong provinces.

They spent the night with the JPAC team at their base camp in Ta-Oy. On the 22nd of January they stopped in Vientiane where they met with Lao government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Defense to discuss issues related to POW/MIA operations and policy in Lao PDR. |Jan. 18-22, 2007|
